On the Shaman's Drum
In this class, we will journey on the Shaman’s Drum to make contact with archetypes within representing our blessed Spirit Animal Helpers and Spirit Guides. Similar to dream work, Shamanic journeying has been called “conscious” dreaming. In the Shamanic practice of engaging the ecstatic body postures, we will embody ancient hieroglyphics to discover how they may inform our lives today. Shamanic practice awakens us to our unity with all of life – both the life we know through our senses as well as the life just beyond the veil. It is a profound practice, beautiful beyond measure. We will engage the Shamanic practice as handed down through the lineage of Michael Harner and Sandra Ingerman. For the ecstatic postures, we will draw on the work of anthropologist Felicitas Goodman that was later documented for practice by long-time student Belinda Gore. Background: I studied with Michael Harner, Sandra Ingerman and Alberto Villoldo in the 1990s and early 2000s. It was in my first workshop with Harner and Ingerman that I received the name “Tree of Life” for my new yoga studio. Over the next 10+ years, I incorporated Shamanic journeying into my spiritual practice and worked with Shamanic Practitioner Julie Hannon as the need arose. In 2012, I returned to New Mexico to work with Sandra Ingerman and, following, was listed on her website as one of her recommended Shamanic Practitioners. Since that time, I have led Shamanic journeying many times, in various classes, at the Tree of Life and, just last year, began introducing the ecstatic postures.
