Tai Chi
IAN MANCHESTER Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercise and movement designed to work not only on the body but the mind as well. This class teaches a variant on the 108 frame Yang Long Form. The primary focus of class will be on relaxation, proper posture, and moving through forms, but will also include aspects of mediation, breathing and mental focus. Some aspects of Tai Chi's martial history and applications may also be touched on. Through Tai Chi, it's hoped the student will find better health, balance and coordination, and an everyday exercise that helps them remained focused and calm. Anyone who participates in this class will benefit. Although Tai Chi in America generally focuses on older people, it's suitable for all ages. We all have stress and distractions from daily life. Tai Chi is a way to reduce both, get some exercise and develop good habits for focusing on the things we want to achieve. Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites other than participants should be in generally good health. Many postures in Tai Chi involve turning at the waist and flexing at the knees so students with lower spine or knee issues should be careful. Please inform the instructor of any issues at the start of class so the moves can be modified to accommodate you. |
Prerequisites: Please refer to class description.
